This also means that it's time for you to go. You are a "HAS BEEN", and your shadow has become so small, that we hardly see it. Let the young girls do their job. As for you it's time to live a real life. When we look at you, we are frightened in every respect. Class, you'll never have! At least, show a little bit of dignity, if possible!!! Your career is back, so is your life. I hope for you, that you have some TRUE FRIENDS around you, for the rest of your life. YOU HAVE BEEN A GRAND SLAVE TO WIN GRAND SLAM! WILL YOU BE ABLE TO LOVE LIFE FOR LIFE TO LOVE YOU? MACTE ANIMO!

Martina has dominated Tennis more than Jack Niclaus, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan did their sports. If you look at Wilt Chamberlin's Statistics he and Martina dominated their sports more than any two people, except Martina did it much longer. I would hope to see her get the recognition she deserves for her committment to the highest degree of excellence over an extraordinary long time. I'm a 58 year old sports fan that has seen every great athlete come and go. For my money I would watch Martina play if she was 80.

[Excerpts from a letter written to MSNBC]
Bonjour,
As always, your coverage of the French Open was excellent! You also manage to have first-rate commentators at each Grand Slam you cover. There is one exception, however: Bud Collins, aka The Clown. Although he seems to thrive as his self-appointed role as tennis clown, he often, far too often, also tries to peddle the little he actually knows of the sport.
Case in point: his "participation" (why and what for?) at the trophy ceremony after the ladies' final. I have no idea who put Navratilova into this number or what she was there for. Since, in her real career she never had a sponsor (not even for her tennis rackets), she does "not play for fun." She needs the money. She had no sponsor after she felt compelled to "come out" and tell the world something which each tennis fan, and most of the regular folks, already knew: that she was gay! Sponsors don't like that. I could not care less. Martina was not the first gay player, nor the last one, nor the only one. Old story! Not worth mentioning, last of all to call a press conference and tell the world. We knew!
Then, when her career was mercifully over, she did get a sponsor, Toshiba. Immediately after this new source of money opened, she gave another interview about her life in the U.S. So she said: "I only changed one prison for another one." She meant from the "prison" in Czechoslovakia she went to the "prison" in the USA. Professional athletes do not come any dumber, and she lost her Toshiba deal. So, to the horror of all real tennis fans, she is back playing doubles with anyone dumb enough to play with her.
THE GREATEST ANNOYANCE AT THE FRENCH OPEN BUT WENT, ONCE MORE, TO YOUR BUD COLLINS: his almost pathological disdain and hate for Steffi Graf is well-known in tennis circles. Maybe, you did not have much influence when Navratilova got this stupid picture of the Roland Garos Stadium. What for? She only won the damn thing twice.
And, off went Bud Collins' mouth because he saw an opening to insult Steffi Graf who still seven years after retirement towers above all of them, especially to Mr. Collins, in the "classy" department. He actually said when referring to the great champions of the past as "Navratilova (2 wins) and Evert (7 wins)." Evert certainly deserved to be mentioned because she holds the record at the French Open. But, Ms. Navratilova? And, as Mr. Collins always does so well, he left the biggest name of all of them out: Steffi Graf!
Is Steffi dead or something? She ushered out Evert's career (although also Chris was a mile above Navratilova in the style-and-class department) and ditto Navratilova. Now, if Evert won seven French Opens and Navratilova two, BUT GRAF WON SIX, it would have been only fair to mention Steffi's name as well. Graf won 22 Grand Slams, and only single titles really count. She won Wimbledon seven times, the French Open six times, the U.S. Open five times, and the Australian Open four times. Navratilova's record does not even come close when it came to winning on ALL surfaces. So why this amnesia about Graf? She is not dead, just retired, married and has two kids. She does that one with class and style, too.
How long do we have to look at Navratilova at places where she does not belong?
Best regards,

and if caught, allege fraud!

Suggestions: Some balanced view about Ms. Navratilova, the very good AND the very bad. I have played tennis for 54 years, and I do have something to say.

Martina is truly one of the greatest. The great tennis personality, obviously! Beyond that, however, she with her incredible command of the english language is fantastic in any commentary or interview.
My best wishes to her for the fulfilling future which awaits.

I only have a few regrets and at the top of the list is that I never got to see you play tennis in person during your incedible winning days. Thank you for bringing the quality of women's tennis to a higher standard and for having the courage to say who you are.

I saw you on tv doing an interview. You look about 10 years younger than you are. I didn't realize you are so active. I remember as a kid, watching you play against, Jimmy Conners? my older brother told me you were a lesbian. At 7 I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. I would just like to say you're the best tennis player I've ever seen and still hot.

I am reading Shape Your Self with the intention of doing just that. I was born in 1957, am 5'9" tall and I weigh over 300 pounds. I have no desire to be thin; I want only to be strong and mobile once again. I have never followed the advice of the hundreds of diet gurus that have come down the pike, but I respect you and want to see if I can follow you in this regimen. I am a writer and introspective and it is not simple for me to take advice or to admit impediment. But here I am.
