On 02.16.92 Martina broke Chris Evert's record of 157 singles titles; Jimmy Connors holds the men's record of 109 titles


177 women's doubles titles: 146 WTA Tour doubles titles and 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles + 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles


Completed with Pam Shriver in 1984. Maria Ester Bueno had also realized it in 1960, but not with the same partner, as she won at Paris, Wimbledon and the Us Open playing with Darlene Hard, and at the Australian Open with Christine Truman


Martina won all three titles (women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles) at all four Grand Slam events. She completed the Super Slam in 2003 by winning the mixed doubles at the Australian Open


Martina was the final champion both in the singles and doubles competition during the same tournament's edition for 84 times


From February, 20 to December 7, 1984. She's followed by Steffi Graf (66 matches from June 1989 to May 1990), Chris Evert (55 matches) and Guillermo Vilas (46 matches)

1211 wins / 232 defeats. In detail, she played 1.111 matches from 1973 to 1994 (989 wins / 122 defeats), and 332 matches during her comeback to professional Tour, from 2000 to 2006 (222 wins / 110 defeats)


She broke Chris Evert's previous record of 1309 victories on October 12, 1991 by reaching the finals in Milan. In detail, Martina won 1418 singles matches in regular WTA tour and Grand Slam events, and 37 exhibition matches


Martina's amazing record is
1 defeat/86 matches in 1983 and 2 defeats/78 matches in 1984. Steffi Graf follows, with 2 defeats in 1987 and in 1988


In 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1990. Helen Wills Moody held the previous record of 8 titles, achieved between 1927 and 1938


From 1982 to 1987. She's followed by Suzanne Lenglen (5 consecutive titles, from 1919 to 1923) and Bjorn Borg (5 consecutive titles as well, from 1976 to 1980)


Martina defeated Monica Seles in
Paris on February 21, 1993, at the age of 36 years and 4 months. The record was previously set in 1981 by Billie Jean King, who was 36 years and 3 months-old when she beat the young number one, Martina, in Houston


By winning the Rogers Cup in Montréal on August 2006, at the age of 49 years and 10 months, Martina broke the record previously held by Billie Jean King, who won her last title at the age of 39


Martina set the record by winning the Us Open mixed doubles titles on September 9, 2006 (it also was her last professional match), at the age of 49 years and 10 months

Martina was present both in the WTA singles and doubles rankings during the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, as well as during her comeback in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 (entering the top 10 again!)

Martina equals or very close to the record holders:



At the 1987 Us Open Martina won the singles title (defeating Steffi Graf in the finals), the women's doubles title (paired with Pam Shriver) and the mixed doubles title (paired with Emilio Sanchez). The triple crown was also achieved by Margaret Smith Court (at the Us Open in 1970) and Billie Jean King (at Wimbledon in 1973)


9 women's singles titles, 7 women's doubles titles and 4 mixed doubles titles. Martina reached Billie Jean King's record of 20 Wimbledon titles (6 singles, 10 women's doubles and 4 mixed doubles titles; also, Billie Jean's 20th and last Wimbledon title was the women's doubles won with Martina in 1979) by winning her 2003 mixed doubles title, paired with Leander Paes


18 singles, 31 women's doubles and 10 mixed doubles titles. Maragaret Smith Court still holds the record (62 Grand Slam titles won between 1960 and 1975: 24 singles, 19 women's doubles and 19 mixed doubles titles)


9 Wimbledon / 4 Us Open / 3 Australian Open / 2 Roland Garros. Martina is placed third, together with Chris Evert, who also won 18 titles; the record belongs to Margareth Smith Court (24 Grand Slam singles titles), followed by Steffi Graf (22 Grand Slam singles titles)
