On April 24 and 25 Martina and Lisa joined the US Fed Cup team to face Slovenia in the first round at the SRC Marina Portoroz in Portoroz, Slovenia. The American team won, defeating Slovenia 4-1; as regards Martina, she and Lisa won their women's doubles match, defeating 6-1 1-6 6-0 Tina Krizan and Katarina Srebotnik. On July the Us team will face Austria in the quarterfinals.

On July 10 - 11 Martina and the US team faced Austria in the Federation Cup quarterfinals. The event took place in Innsbruck (Austria) at Bergisel Stadion, a 15,000-seat arena that served as a venue during Winter Olympics of 1964 and 1976. Unfortunately, the American team was defeated 4-1; also, Martina lost a Fed Cup match for the first time, dropping her career record in the competition to 40-1 (which now is 31-1 for the United States and 9-0 while playing for Czechoslovakia)
